Details for Employers
Thanks for participating in this year's event!
Jobs for Vets! 2016 was a scheduled hiring fair for veterans, held on March 22. Organizers sought out businesses that were looking to hire men and women who have served in the military. The event ran 12 noon to 3 p.m., at the Northwestern Michigan College Hagerty Center.
Organizers say veterans tend to bring a skill set that is beneficial for business. While veterans have a lot to contribute to a business, they tend to have a higher unemployment rate than the general population. Jobs For Vets Hiring Event aims to reverse that trend.
“Veterans are typically good leaders, dependable, follow instructions, and are strong contributors,” says NMC Military and Veteran Service Advisor, Scott Herzberg.
Participants were encouraged to bring their résumé and be ready for job interviews depending on the position. Each of the participating businesses made a donation to support veteran causes in Northwest Michigan.
“We have a lot of veterans who have given service to our country,” says Herzberg. “Helping them get into productive jobs could be the best way to show support for their service.”
Jobs For Vets was organized by the Northwestern Michigan College Veterans Services Office, Northwest Michigan Works! Career Café, and Bill Marsh Auto Group. The Traverse Area Human Resources Association is a supporting organization. VFW Post 2780, Northwest Consumer Federal Credit Union, Fox Motors, Jimmy John's, Britten Banner, and the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa made financial contributions in support of the event.
We hope you'll join us in our 3rd annual Jobs for Vets 2017 event taking place on March 21st from 2pm-6pm at the NMC Hagerty Center.
